Imposter on TV
Imposter is a party game for Android TV and Google TV. Everyone's phone shows the same secret word except one, which shows only the category. Say one word each, round the room, then work out who was faking it. For 4 to 20 players, with one television and nothing for guests to install.
- 4–20 players
- A phone each + wifi
- 3 rounds free
How a round goes
- Everyone gets the word. One of you doesn't
- One word each, round the room
- Catch the imposter, or they walk
Every phone shows the category and the word, except the imposter's, which shows the category and the word IMPOSTER. The television shows the room as a line-up. It never says whose turn it is and never keeps score.
Go round the room once, one word each. Say something too obvious and the imposter learns the word; say something too vague and everyone decides it was you.
Vote when you are sure. On your phone you can change your vote until the vote closes, or you can argue it out loud and press Reveal the imposter on the television. When everyone has voted there are a few seconds to change your mind, then the reveal plays by itself: the votes land one at a time, the most-voted player steps into a spotlight, and a stamp comes down, IMPOSTER or INNOCENT.
A tie lets the imposter walk. If the room was right, the imposter still gets one guess at the word, from eight cards, and a right guess steals the round.

What the phones do
Every player needs a phone, because the phone is where the secret lives. The television shows a QR code, and scanning it opens the game in the phone's browser, with nothing to install and no account. Players can join and leave between rounds. A phone that arrives mid-round is dealt in on the next one, and a phone that has gone to sleep sits out until it wakes.
The words
The deck is English, and there is one way to play it, so there is nothing to set up: pick the game and the lobby opens. A television set to Worldwide deals 768 words. One set to India deals 901 words, which adds categories such as cricket and Indian cities.
Free to try
The first 3 rounds are free to try, with no card and no account. Each round's word comes from a pool and is never the same twice in a room. After that, a monthly, yearly or once-for-life plan unlocks the rest, and every other game on the shelf with it.
Questions
How many people can play Imposter on a TV?
4 to 20 players, each with their own phone.
Does everyone need a phone?
Yes, one each. The phone holds the word, and it is how you vote. Scanning the QR code on the television opens the game in the phone's browser, so nobody installs an app.
Can we vote out loud instead of on the phones?
Yes. Argue it out, then press Reveal the imposter on the television. The phone vote is still there if you would rather use it.
Does the television keep score?
No. It never keeps score and never says whose turn it is.
